A letter to my avocado-sized tiny human

Hi, baby. I'm 18 weeks pregnant today. 16 weeks ago, you were a single cell with two nuclei, about to mix it together and make a new human. Look at you now: a tiny baby curled up in a foetal position. Sometimes it feels unreal. I can't grasp how lucky I am to have you in my belly. I think it will be easier when I'll really feel you move. For now, I'm always afraid that you might disappear, even though I feel my uterus stretching to give you room to grow. How does it feel? Are you comfortable? Do you hear your dad? He talks to you in the evenings. I can't wait to see you two reunited. You need to know this man is the nicest human in the world. Everytime we talk about you, his eyes turn red and glisten. I think you'll like him, he knows how to make people feel safe. For now, your dad feels a little bit lonely sometimes, because I have you with me all the time. I know he will be your favorite human soon. I couldn't do it without him. Before I met him, I wasn't sure I was capable of making a family. I was more into destruction, to be honest. Then I met this man who could stay calm at all times and help around. Do you know we never fought in 8 years? He cooks for us and then we curl up in bed and laugh. Our weekly trip to the flea markets has changed lately, most of the time we only get stuff for you: tiny overalls, bunny-shaped lights, giant stuffed animals. You'll soon discover our home is packed with enough books and toys and craft supplies to keep anyone untertained for a few decades. We bought a high chair so that you could watch your dad chop vegetables. The kitchen is his happy place, but we already made room for you. I think there are really few babies who have the five-stars food diversification you're about to experience. But first, we'll learn about breastfeeding together. I also need to buy a pump to let your dad feed you.

Our extended families are not really present, though you'll have one grandpa who is eager to take you to the beach. The good thing is, our chosen family is wonderful. Our friend group may be chaotic, to say the least, but I think you'll like these weird, caring, eccentric souls. I'm not sure how I'll talk to you about your donor. The thing is, the state is not really eager for us to make babies, so we needed to DIY a little bit. So many queer people already showed us the way, though. Do you know there are several people who are genuinly happy to know that you upgraded to avocado-size today?

See you soon, my precious, precious avocado, I'm so glad to know you're warm in my womb, slowly turning into the most beautiful human in this planet.
